New National Parks

There is a long-term plan for which areas can become a national park in the future. In total, there are 10 new areas and three extensions of existing national parks that can complement today's 31 national parks.

The Swedish Parliament and Government are responsible for approving the creation of new national parks and the expansion of existing parks. In partnership with the county administrative boards, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for providing supporting information for decisions and for planning the national parks.
