About Stenshuvud National Park

A coastal hill, lush broadleaf forests, pastoral heaths and beautiful beaches come together to form a stunning landscape on Österlen in southern Sweden. The national park has a warm, almost exotic character and a remarkable biological diversity worth both preserving and exploring.

The area has long been shaped by grazing and agriculture. Clearance cairns, stone walls and ancient remains in the area bear witness to human presence and influence in the landscape.

From mid‑May to mid‑November, cattle graze in parts of the national park. Grazing animals are the key to preserving the flowering meadows and the open glades.

The mountain Stenshuvud consists of three peaks, of which the northern one is the highest at 97 metres above sea level. From here you have a magnificent view over Hanöbukten, and in clear weather you can see the Danish island of Bornholm as a blue shadow on the south‑eastern horizon.

The flora in Stenshuvud National Park is exceptionally rich, with around 600 species of vascular plants, as well as many mosses, lichens and fungi.
