Visit the park

Here you’ll find directions, information about local services, and other useful details to help you prepare for your visit to Björnlandet National Park.

You need a car to reach Björnlandet National Park. At the main entrance Angsjö there is information about the national park and a rest area with a fire pit. Mobile coverage is poor in the area, but at entré Angsjö and on the hilltops in the park there is some coverage.

Seasons in Björnlandet National Park

Each season has its charm in Björnlandet. Picking berries in autumn, hiking in summer and tracking mammals in winter are just some of the things you can do.

Winter

When winter is at its darkest and the snow is deepest, it is good to have wide wooden skis. The daylight hours are few, but the dawn and dusk light can be very beautiful in the winter landscape. Moonlight can sometimes be so strong that you can ski in the moonlight. Watch out for open streams or hollows.

Late winter

Find out if the road is ploughed up to entré Angsjön. Spring crust snow can be fantastic for skiers. A favourite activity in winter is tracking mammals in the park.

Summer

As soon as the road has dried after the thaw, the park becomes accessible. Drive carefully. Early summer is the season of the birds. Angsjön, Ansjöbäcken, Björkbäcken and the mire areas are often good for birdwatching. Later in summer the cloudberries bloom and it becomes berry season.

Autumn

The deciduous trees shine among the pines and spruces. The mosquitoes have stopped buzzing and the air becomes increasingly fresh to breathe. During the moose hunt, visitors must share the area with hunters. However, there is plenty of space also for the hiker. Visit one of the hilltops and enjoy the view.

Accessibility

The area around the Angsjö entrance is adapted for accessibility for visitors using, for example, a wheelchair. You can drive a car up to the turning area, where there is a service building with an accessible dry toilet. From the entrance, a wooden ramp begins, which is also accessible for larger electric wheelchairs. Along the ramp, there is information about the park, a hand‑cranked audio station with stories, a fire pit and a cold spring with drinking water.

Up to the Häggsjö entrance, the road is public. At the entrance, there is a service building with an accessible dry toilet. At the rest area, a short wooden ramp leads to information about the trails and the park.
